Smartcool Systems Inc.  is pleased to announce the successful completion of an ECO3 air conditioning energy efficiency pilot project for Internet Solutions a division of the  Dimension Data, NTT group.

This 18-month pilot project achieved 14% energy savings with Smartcool’s ECO3 installed on 11 air conditioning units in two South African data centers.  Internet Solutions is looking at the potential to reduce their electricity bill by $156,000 USD each year with a rollout to their other 140 air conditioning units, giving them a return on investment in less than 12 months.

“We are actively seeking energy saving solutions to bring down our carbon footprint,” says Rennie Naidoo, Senior Operations Manager for Internet Solutions.  “We selected Smartcool technology to increase our energy efficiency and are very happy with the implementation and results.”

Cooling is a mission-critical factor for data centers, meaning that any variation in temperature could have a profound negative impact on the business.  Data centers typically see more than 50% of their operating costs consumed by air conditioning, critical to keeping the IT equipment cool enough to function properly.  Smartcool’s ECO3 increased the energy efficiency of Internet Solutions’ air conditioning while maintaining the required temperature settings.

This energy project was managed by Tilt Cool Tech, Smartcool’s independent distributor in South Africa. Tim Stephens, the Technical Manager at Tilt said, “We are very pleased with the energy savings we achieved for Internet Solutions using the ECO3.  Energy consumption is a major concern in South Africa due to problems in supply and rapidly rising costs.  Providing our customers with a product like the ECO3 that delivers reliable, significant energy savings gives us a huge advantage in the market.”
