When:    21 September, 2012 from 1030 – 1700hrs

Where:    African Union Headquarters, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

New AU Conference Complex

Who:    The event will bring together Member States, regional and international organisations, media and civil society organisations, with the aim of putting peace into practice, through a collective, cooperative moment of unity. The Commissioner, Peace and Security, will also give a live address to the London Concert for Peace, which is being organised by a UK Nonprofit organization advocating for global peace, ‘Peace One Day’ and the popular UK singer, Sir Elton John on the same day and this will be televised live through various global news agencies.

Why:    Established by a UN resolution in 1982, Peace Day provides a single rallying point for the continent to show that peace is possible. The 2012 Peace Day is particularly significant to the extent that it will be celebrated within the framework of the 10th Anniversary of the AU.

JOURNALISTS ARE INVITED TO COVER THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE EVENT.
