The Deputy Executive Director of UNEP Ms. Amina Mohammed will focus on decisions made on priority issues, such as the green economy, in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication, sustainable development goals and renewed efforts to promote sustainable consumption and production. She will also talk about the decisions taken at Rio+20 regarding the up-grading of UNEP.
The Urban Planning Coordinator for UN-HABITAT, Mr. Raj Tuts will briefly present the Agency’s perspective of Rio+20.
More than 130 heads of state and government and thousands of leaders from business and civil society met in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from 20 to 22 June for the Rio+20 – UN Conference on Sustainable Development. The theme of the conference was Sustainable Development, “The future we want”. The conference was to galvanize action to reduce poverty and spur economic growth that is more inclusive, equitable and environmentally sustainable. Delegates were expected to discuss new measures, such as sustainable development goals and innovative ways of measuring human well-being, that can help foster a more liveable future for this and future generation.
